The Diverse Book Tag

The Diverse Book Tag was inspired by my reading goal for this year which is to read more diverse books. It has been hard trying to find books, especially if they aren’t popular within the bookstagram or book twitter community. I’m hoping that with this tag we can all find some new books to read and give hype to those that deserve it.

I’d love for you all to take part! Tag me in your blog posts, tag some friends and that’s about it! If you do take part, I’d love to know so that I can share them too! And before I start, I’m thanking my blogger friend Mieke from the littlemousethatreads as she has helped me come up with prompts and the tag too. Make sure to check her out!

Maia Tamarin- A book with a strong heroine (who’s diverse)!

Of course there are so many books with a strong heroine and so this one might be easy! Maia is the main character in Spin the Dawn. I’ve not seen this one been talked about hugely. It’s a YA fantasy Mulan retelling, with a fast paced storyline and an amazing romance too, I’d highly recommend this one! My full review is here.

Kiko Himura- A book with a biracial character

I definitely feel like that being a person of colour can be hard enough living in this world, but I think being biracial comes with so many struggles too. Kiko Himura is from the book Starfish which is a contemporary which deals with a tough home life and mental health. There are trigger warnings for this book. But I’ve got a review up here on my blog if you want to find out more.

Zayneb- A book written by a Muslim author

Zayneb is from the book Love From A to Z which explores Islamophobia and disability and just coming of age in general. This book is the only one I have read so far which represents Islam in a correct way! You can read my full review here.

Séverin- A book with a morally grey character (who’s diverse)!

I had to include this trope especially after including a strong heroine! Séverin is from the book The Gilded Wolves which is a fantasy, historical fiction heist book. A heist book screams morally grey to me and I definitely feel like Séverin fits the title.

Starr Carter- A book that educates about the struggles a poc can go through

This book is quite well known and has even been adapted into a movie. Starr Carter is from the book The Hate U Give. Dealing with racism and social injustice, this YA book is a must read. This book is unforgettable and I’m sure it will continue to educate many others.

Anna K- A book that breaks stereotypes (which is diverse)!

Anna K: A Love Story is a retelling of the classic Anna Karenina. It explores topics which might be triggering to you so I’d definitely watch out for that. It has a gossip girl vibe but is honestly so much more! I briefly mentioned this book in my March Diverse New Releases post.

I’ve had so much fun writing this and creating this tag! I only managed to include one book with a boy as the protagonist, this just makes me realise that I need to read more of them. If you have any recommendations I’d love to know!

  1. Excellent post, I totally agree that one should try to diversify reading material.
